As the parent company, AI Progetti was awarded the tender for the renovation and refurbishment work at the civic centre of the former E. Salgari school in S. Martino Buon Albergo, currently subject to historical and artistic constraints. The building, in masonry and mixed floors in brick-concrete and solid slab, has an original system dating back to 1925 that was enlarged in the 1950s with the construction of the two side wings. Between 2008 and 2014, the public administration started renovations, which were later abandoned. The project now undertaken intends to use the existing structure as a multifunctional civic centre, a cultural place for learning and information, which can be defined as “Piazza del Sapere”, re-adopting the concept coined by Antonella Agnoli. The structure will house a library, a conference room for 100 people, rooms for activities for the elderly, rooms for physical activity and coworking. From the point of view of the structures, the interventions are aimed at consolidating the existing one to make it suitable for changes in loads deriving from the change of intended use, always respecting the historical-artistic value of the property.
