The extraordinary maintenance project involved the the property located on the third floor of an historical building located in the Castello neighborhood of Venice, with the intention of modernizing its living spaces, while still keeping the property’s traditional character and original structure.
The interior modifications have been designed to optimize the available spaces, adding two new bathrooms, and to give back to the apartment a wide an functional central lounge. The kitchen has been renovated, with the addition of a laundry room, and the living room spaces have been increased in size with the elimination of some internal walls.
Another significant intervention addressed the ground floor, where a new septic tank has been built, which will serve both the third and fourth floor accommodations so as to comply with the health and hygiene norms. The two existing storage rooms have been merged as one wide space. The venetian terrazzo flooring have been restored, along with the suspended ceilings and the wooden beams, which have been left visible where possible. The external window and door frames have been treated, stripped and reinstalled in their original positions.
The project was carried out in compliance with the urban planning and historical heritage conservation regulations of the Municipality of Venice. The architectonic characteristics of the building, such as the load-bearing masonry and the wooden floor structures, have been conserved and treated to keep their historical authenticity, while all the systems have been updated to match modern regulations, guaranteeing the perfect balance between functionality and heritage protection.
